The CEDRIC project concludes: advancing new approaches for soil regeneration

After more than two years of international research and collaboration, the EU-funded CEDRIC project has officially come to an end. The project leaves behind valuable scientific insights and new perspectives for the regeneration of degraded agricultural soils.

Inspired by the success of human microbiome transplantation, CEDRIC explored whether microbiomes from healthy plant roots can be transferred to depleted soils. The objective was to restore microbial biodiversity, improve soil structure and nutrient availability, increase soil carbon sequestration, and ultimately support healthier and more resilient crops.

As an industry partner, Hechenbichler contributed practical agricultural expertise and applied research experience throughout the project. Together with universities, research institutions and industry partners from Italy and Austria, we helped bridge the gap between laboratory research and practical agricultural application.

The project demonstrated the potential of root microbiome transplantation as a nature-based approach to improving soil health. Beyond its scientific findings, CEDRIC established a strong cross-border network that fostered collaboration between research, industry and agriculture, creating a valuable foundation for future innovation.

For Hechenbichler, the completion of CEDRIC marks an important milestone rather than the end of the journey. The knowledge gained through the project further strengthens our commitment to developing sustainable biological solutions that enhance soil fertility, crop resilience and agricultural productivity.
